Replacing Limiting Beliefs

Identify and replace limiting beliefs to achieve your goals and create success.

Do you feel held back by self-doubt, poor self-belief, or a lack of confidence when trying to make positive changes in your life? This journaling exercise will help you identify, challenge, and replace the negative beliefs that are limiting your ability to fully engage in personal growth. By following this step-by-step guide, you'll learn to recognize and overcome the thoughts that hinder your progress, empowering you to achieve great things and create the life you desire.

Set aside approximately 20 minutes to sit down in a quiet space to complete this guide.

1. Write down the action or change you are looking to make in your life.

2. Write down the negative beliefs that are dominating your thoughts when you see yourself attempting to achieve this goal.

3. Ask yourself: "How true has this belief been for me until this point, on a scale of 1-10 (1 is low, 10 is high)". Write this down.

4. Write any proof that you have that this is not true about who you are (successes, experiences, past accomplishments).

5. What will happen if you hold onto this belief? What will you miss out on by not letting it go?

6. What do you gain from holding onto this belief? (e.g. time, safety, avoiding mistakes).

7. What would be possible for you if you let go of this belief?

8. When reflecting on these answers, can you agree that this belief is not the truth of who you are?

9. How true is the belief for you now on a scale of 1-10?

10. What is a new belief that you can tell yourself that is more empowering and will help you to move forward with your new life?

Once you settle on this new belief, write it down on a large piece of paper and place it somewhere you can see it daily. You can put it in several spots around your home and in your phone.
