Catch a Pleasant Event Daily

Develop attention daily to the small things that can bring us even a moment of joy!

We can often miss these small moments in life that feel nice, ok, pleasant, or even joyful. As humans, we do not naturally fall into noticing what is pleasant and have to develop our capacity for turning to and tuning into moments that feel good. By intentionally practicing finding something pleasant or joyful daily to notice and how this shows in our body, we can develop this capacity for turning to the good on a regular basis, helping us build resilience. Try this reflective practice from Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.

1. What did you notice today that felt pleasant or joyful for you?

ex. hearing a bird sing, watching a sunset, drinking a good cup of tea, hearing a child laugh.

2. Did you notice it was pleasant at the time, or are you noticing it now?

3. What did you feel in your body at that time?

4. What emotions did you notice?

5. What thoughts were in your head at that time?

6. What thoughts are here now for you as you reflect and write out this pleasant event?
