Turn Your Lemons Into Lemonade

Experience the joy of making lemonade (when life gives you lemons.)

Turning lemons into lemonade isn’t always easy, but it can be done. I know, because I’ve been there. Most often it begins with simply doing something positive next. Like finding some gratitude, and living more gratefully. Like experiencing some grace, and living more gracefully. Like searching for and finding gifts — even when life has given you lemons. And remember, sometimes the best gifts don’t come gift wrapped.

1. What do you do when life gives you lemons?

Do you most often go down a negative or positive path? The path you go down is a choice. Start by choosing a positive path next time life gives you a lemon.

2. What can you do that will help you choose the positive path more often when life gives you lemons?

Express gratitude for all you have to keep yourself on a positive path. Take deep breaths when you feel stress or worry coming on to help bring you back to positivity.

3. Are your “lemons” really problems, or are they inconveniences?

Let this question sink in. Do you know that a great way to overcome your blues is by helping and serving others — especially those less fortunate? Get out there and serve, and see how much better you feel about your life.

4. Do you have too much “noise” in your life?

“Lemons” are often brought on by “noise,” like watching too much TV or too much social media. Quiet your noise; instead, find your “beach” — any quiet place or space where you can think better. Read a book, listen to music, or, of course, go to the beach!

5. You never know how strong you are.

Start journals titled “What would make today great?” or “What would make this year great?” then answer those questions. Create a “Vision Board” with them, and then get busy living your vision!
