1. What does it actually say? Write it word for word.
The real phrasing, including the parts too harsh to repeat to anyone else.
2. Whose voice is it?
Read it back out loud if you can. Most people recognize the cadence, the vocabulary, or the timing.
3. What is it trying to prevent?
Critics usually believe they are keeping you safe from humiliation, exposure, or getting your hopes up. What is this one guarding?
4. What would you have to risk if it went quiet?
This is why it stays. Name what becomes possible, and therefore frightening.
