1. Who gets talked about, or who will nobody discuss? What supposedly happened? Separate what is actually documented from what has only ever been repeated.
2. Strip the moral off the story. What was their real situation? What were they choosing between? What did they never get to choose? What would that same choice look like in your life?
3. What do people say you got from them? Rarely the nose. Usually the temper, the restlessness, the luck, the way you leave. Do you wear the comparison or resent it?
4. What is the story warning you about? Family legends carry instructions. Someone is held up as an example, someone is held out as what happens if you go that way. Which are you being told you are?
