Pause Before You React

Slow down reactions and choose your response in real time

Something sets you off and a reaction starts to load fast. This helps you catch it early — before it takes over — so you can see what's happening and choose your response instead of defaulting to the same pattern.

1. What just happened?

One sentence. No story.

2. What reaction is already loading?

What are you about to say, do, assume, or shut down if you do not pause?

3. What is happening in your body right now?

Just notice it. No analysis. Tension, heat, tightness, pressure, racing pulse.

4. What is driving this right now?

Frustration, defensiveness, habit, fear, exhaustion, something else?

5. If you follow this, how does it usually end?

Name the pattern you are about to run.

6. What could you do differently right now?

One small shift. Say less. Pause. Wait. Soften your response.
